Million of bats

Witnessing the Bat Migration in Kasanka National Park

Hidden deep within Zambia’s mushitu forest, Kasanka National Park transforms each year into the stage for one of Africa’s greatest natural spectacles—the annual bat migration. From late October to early December, millions of fruit bats fill the sky in a breathtaking display of movement and sound. During my visit in the last weekend of October 2025, I witnessed this phenomenon up close: the thunder of wings at dusk, the glow of campfires under star-studded skies, and the quiet magic of being completely off-grid. Kasanka may not be rich in big game, but nothing compares to standing beneath that swirling cloud of life, feeling the pulse of nature in its purest form. This is a journey that challenges, humbles, and ultimately stays with you long after you leave the forest behind.
