Border Update: Victoria Falls

Good news for travelers crossing between Zambia and Zimbabwe: the Victoria Falls Border Post is now open 24 hours, making border crossings more flexible and convenient, especially for early-morning or late-night arrivals. Previously closing at 10pm, the extended operating hours will ease congestion, reduce processing times, and allow smoother travel between both sides of the Falls. As one of Southern Africa’s busiest border crossings, this change makes Victoria Falls a more seamless and fully connected tourism corridor.

Visitors can now enjoy greater flexibility, including sunrise and sunset visits to the Falls, easier access to night-time activities, and faster, more convenient onward travel.

Visa Waiver Programme

Zambia continues to offer a generous visa waiver programme, allowing citizens of many countries to enter without a visa. Travelers are strongly encouraged to check whether their nationality qualifies before making visa arrangements. From 1 January 2025, Zambia has expanded its visa-free entry programme, allowing citizens of 167 countries to enter without a visa—up from an additional 53 newly exempt nations. This move continues the tourism-friendly policy introduced in 2022 to attract key global markets.

While entry has been simplified, border controls have been strengthened through new legislation, including increased immigration staffing, enhanced security systems, and additional control points. This balanced approach supports tourism growth while maintaining border security, with Zambia targeting two million visitors by the end of the decade.
